The Navigator Company’s “Give the Forest a Hand” Initiative in Lisbon

The “Give the Forest a Hand” initiative marks the 8th consecutive year of World Forest Day, seeking to raise awareness in the community on the need to renew and protect forests.
The action took place in the Zoological Garden on March 23 and 24 March, and featured ludic-pedagogic activities especially dedicated to children in the 1st cycle of Basic Education.

The Navigator Company, the European leader in the production of thin, uncoated printing papers, and the largest national producer of plants, held the “Give the Forest a Hand” initiative, for the 8th consecutive year, on March 23 and 24 at the Zoological Garden. It is a pedagogical action project directed to children of the 1st cycle of Basic Education and the urban community, and is aimed at raising awareness on the importance and need to protect forests, value forest-based products (such as paper), and preserve the environment.

Launched for the first time in the International Year of Forests in 2011, this initiative aims to strengthen education as a sustainability component through a set of ludic-pedagogical activities in 2018.

Several sessions of the play “The Forest” were presented at the “Give the Forest a Hand” space throughout the day, telling the history of the different professions linked to the forest, the care a forest needs, and how to preserve it. The children then participated in workshops held simultaneously: paper pop-ups, gardening, coloring and crafts. There was also a curious reinterpretation of the “knitting game”, through which children learned a little more about the development of plants. There was also an area where they had the opportunity to take pictures with forest animals.

On Friday (March 23), the space was reserved for more than 500 students and teachers of elementary schools in Lisbon. On Saturday (March 24), it open to the general public, providing an attractive program for all families.

The children were also invited to join the “Give the Forest a Hand”, an idea made possible through a ludic-educational magazine with pedagogical content, games and other activities. Those who enrolled in the Club will be receiving the magazine at home free of charge.

Note that the importance and quality of this “Give the Forest a Hand” initiative have been recognized by the Portuguese Business Communication Association (APCE), which recognized it as the Best Communication Campaign for Social Responsibility in previous editions of the event.
