Navigator Launches World’s Largest Paper Art Award: Navigator Art on Paper

The Navigator Company, in partnership with Expresso, signed on October 22 a collaboration protocol for the launch of the world’s largest paper art award: Navigator Art on Paper. In direct association with the Company’s values, this will be a project mobilizing people to value the importance of paper in our society, encouraging the creativity and appreciation of national and international talent.

The Navigator Art on Paper Award aims to support national and international artistic creation on paper, and value it as a major pillar of innovation, creativity, intelligence and art.

To be awarded every year, the first edition will have the following jurors: Maria da Graça Carmona e Costa (President of the jury and director of Fundação Carmona e Costa), Elfi Turpin (Director of Crac Alsace, France), Anselm Franke (in charge of Visual Arts and Cinema at Haus der Kulturen der Welt), Filipa Oliveira (Award curator), and a fifth to be announced.

Each member of the Jury will nominate three artists with more than 10 years of exhibition experience–who use paper as their principal medium of expression–and who have distinguished themselves over the last three years. The jury will analyze and discuss the portfolios of the 15 selected candidates among themselves. From this process they will choose five finalists, and then the winner. These finalists will hold an exhibition of their works in July, when an official brochure of the award will be released. From the prize money of €50,000, €30,000 will be awarded to the winner, and €5,000 to each of the remaining four finalists.

The partnership of the Navigator Art on Paper Award with Expresso translates into a publicity campaign with Grupo Impresa’s communication channels, which cover press (Expresso newspaper) and television (SIC and SIC Notícias).
